Nambour Chronicle 1903-1955
The Nambour Chronicle & North Coast Advertiser was first published
31st July 1903 and continued as the local newspaper for the Sunshine Coast Region (north of Brisbane, Australia) until 1983.  It has been scanned from microfilm and made available, in digital format, the entire full text run of this newspaper from 1903 to 1955. Researchers are now able to search the entire paper by keyword or issue date and can download and print directly from the paper. This provides easy and convenient access to this valuable historical newspaper.

IRL MAILING LIST

For those of you who can pull this up, there is a series of interesting
interviews from the Roots Web Conference last month.
Included in the list of interviews is one with Feargal O'Donnell of the
Irish Family History Foundation on Roots Television and
with Dick Eastman who conducted all of the nine interviews.
I hope you find this series of interviews helpful and as a guide to
future research in
Ireland. Most of now will drop the IFHF
connect and replace it with the now ubiquitous site of www.rootsireland.ie
site. This site is now supported by
ALL of the church bodies in Ireland including the Anglican Bishop of Armagh and the Catholic Bishop of Armagh at their respective St Patrick's
Cathedral. Finally those originally in charge way back when are now fully
supportive of this venture. And its 'bi-partisan" in its
focus. Feragal O'Donnell is the Manager of the Roots Web center in
Armagh.
The one thing to remember here is that
ALL church records will be placed
on their site with no exception. As a result there will
be records here that are not available at LDS and there will be records that
are currently held in "local custody" that will now be
made available to the public. And of course this is a fee based operation.
I would recommend that those of you who are interested that you view
this interviews for as long as they are available and take
notes. The oldest records [ of which there are a few] date from the 1590's.
Maybe it will give a bit of background for those who
are new to the topic. In a few years RootsIreland.ie will have over 40
million records

ONLINE COURSES

Genealogical Studies Online

Online genealogical studies are becoming more widely available and this month's tip highlights a programme being run by the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Launched in 2006, the Postgraduate programme in Genealogical Studies, addresses the need for an intensive, practitioner-led, university-led award. It is intended for those with an existing interest in Genealogy and related subjects who wish to study the subject in more detail and possibly use it in their careers. The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma can be completed wholly online. The Postgraduate Certificate focuses mainly on British subject matter while the Diploma extends and expands the Certificate topics and also looks at overseas records in more detail.

The course is aimed at students no matter where they reside and the University already has had students from the USA and Canada and has applications from New Zealand, Australia, Africa and elsewhere. Applicants should normally have a degree or equivalent, but other appropriate professional qualifications and experience will be considered.

The next session commences in January 2009. Applications should be submitted by

13 October 2008

Full details are available at www.strath.ac.uk/cll/cpd/genealogy/ or e-mail elaine.richman@strath.ac.uk.

 SCT SEL

http://www.kinhelp.co.uk/KinHelp/genealogical-indices/gene12>
Is a genealogical index to the first volume of the Selkirk Burgh
Court Book, covering 1503-1531, and is notable for some of the earliest
examples of certain local surnames. The spellings are quite
extraordinary at times, but if one remembers to treat then AS THEY
SOUND, then you should have no bother.

ALSO references to help with certain instances.
This is the twelfth such index to be placed online at <KinHelp.co.uk>.
They cover many parts of
Scotland. If you find a name of interest and
have no access to the book, then I can provide copies of pages for a
small fee.
Regards,
Gordon Johnson.
